Last week, ImageThink’s graphic recorders Heather Klar and Kelly Kingman staffed SM2, the Smarter Mobile Marketing event presented by the Mobile Marketing Association as part of New York’s Advertising Week.

The conference was held in the gorgeous Jazz at Lincoln Center venue, which is on the fifth and sixth floors of the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle. For two days, mobile marketing experts were able to take in the view of Central Park and the buildings around Columbus Circle behind our boards.

One movie-buff speaker pointed out that the wall of windows directly faced 240 Central Park South, which featured in the Superman films as Lois Lane’s spacious balcony apartment.

Mobile Marketing for a Cause

One of the most interesting speakers at the conference was Nicholas Kristof, a New York Times columnist and author of the book Half the Sky. Kristof spoke about the power of mobile technology to affect change.

He discussed a range of cause marketing examples like social purpose gaming, which aims to turn our collective addiction to games like Farmville into an engine for charitable giving. He also pointed out that mobile has the ability to empower local voices for change in places like Afghanistan, where more people have mobile phones than televisions. SM2 was held as part of New York’s Advertising Week. Special thanks to USA Today for their sponsorship of ImageThink at this event and allowing us to collaborate with our visual representations.
